Summer

  • Monitor and treat for lawn fungus if needed
  • Adjust mowing height and watering to prevent heat stress
  • Keep up monthly irrigation checks

Fall

  • Aerate and overseed cool-season lawns to repair thin areas
  • Apply late-season fertilizer to strengthen root systems
  • Continue fungicide treatments if needed
  • Perform final mow before winter (around 3.5 to 4 inches)
  • Shut down irrigation systems and winterize components
  • Begin seasonal cleanup (leaves, debris, etc.)

Winter

  • Use this time to plan your lawn care program for the upcoming year

Common Lawn Problems & Fixes

Weed Invasion

  • Crabgrass: Apply pre-emergent in early spring.
  • Dandelions: Spot-treat with vinegar solution or pull before seeding.
  • Clover: Improves soil nitrogen—consider keeping it!

Bare Patches

  • Cause: Heavy foot traffic, pet urine, or disease.
  • Fix: Rake, reseed, and cover with peat moss for moisture.

Yellow or Brown Grass

  • Overwatering? Check for soggy soil & fungus.
  • Underwatering? Grass won’t spring back when stepped on.
  • Nutrient Deficiency? Test soil pH—6.0–7.0 is ideal.
